Cognitive Compassion Training in the Context of Social Vulnerability: Cultivating Well-Being and Resilience
Cultivando Bem-Estar e Resiliência
Abstract
Meditative practices have evidence of promoting health and quality of life, but they are not very accessible to marginalized populations. The aim of this study was to understand the influence of CBCT® compassion meditation on the well-being and resilience of people in contexts of social vulnerability. This is a qualitative, descriptive, action-research study, carried out in a rural and peripheral area of the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil. Data were collected through individual, semi-structured interviews, recorded in audio and analyzed using the content analysis technique in the Webqda software. The results of the participants, mostly young and black, showed that the CBCT® promoted self-knowledge, self-care and acceptance of their own experiences without self-punishment, stimulating compassionate attitudes in collective life. With critical awareness, resilience contributed to greater emotional regulation. In this sense, the CBCT® had a positive impact on the perception of well-being and resilience, contributing to the engagement and transformation of contexts of social vulnerability.
