Usando a pesquisa participativa baseada na comunidade para abordar as disparidades de saúde

Resumo

A pesquisa participativa de base comunitária (CBPR) emergiu nas últimas décadas como um paradigma alternativo de pesquisa, que integra educação e ação social para melhorar a saúde e reduzir as disparidades em saúde. Mais do que um conjunto de métodos de pesquisa, o CBPR é uma orientação para a pesquisa que se concentra nas relações entre parceiros acadêmicos e comunitários, com princípios de co aprendizagem, benefício mútuo e compromisso de longo prazo e incorpora teorias, participação e práticas comunitárias nos esforços de pesquisa. À medida que a CBPR amadurece, tensões se tornaram reconhecidas que desafiam a mutualidade da relação de pesquisa, incluindo questões de poder, privilégio, participação, consentimento da comunidade, discriminação racial e/ou étnica e o papel da pesquisa na mudança social. Este artigo focaliza esses desafios como um contexto dinâmico e em constante mudança da relação pesquisador-comunidade, fornece exames desses paradoxos do trabalho em comunidades indígenas, discute as evidências de que o CBPR reduz as disparidades e recomenda transformar a cultura da academia para fortalecer as relações de pesquisa colaborativa.
