Abstract

This project aims to analyze the role of social movements of residents in the occupation of these land plots, as well as the university administrations’ response to this situation. Additionally, the study considers the migration and settlement process of populations coming from both the interior of Amazonas and other Brazilian states on university land. The research was developed based on written and oral sources. The written sources include texts by researchers who have explored the history of Manaus in the 20th century, covering events ranging from the peak of the rubber cycle to the creation of the Free Trade Zone. The oral sources consist of accounts from former residents of the neighborhood who participated in the occupation of these lands and na interview with a UFAM Heritage Guard who was involved in the process of containing the occupations.
