The Pedagogical Dimension of Violence in the Formation of the Amazonian Worker

Abstract

This article is about an experience concerned with popular education and social movement in Amazonas, during the period of 1979 to 1987, and which involved the amazonense fishermen-agricultural workers and metallurgists. It concentrates on violence – an inherent mechanism of capital as social relation – in its educative dimension of formation of social subjects. It registers changes in language, custums and knowledge or in the culture produced and based on the wold of caboclo agricultural production, that are transformed into new attitudes, languages and meanings or into a culture of the modern industrial production. The pedagogy of violence directed against the amazonense workers turns into the padagogy of the self-formation of a working class which recognizes itself as subjects of production of goods and history.
