Abstract

This article analyses the relevance of sustainability in public policies, with a focus on social projects linked to the promotion of gender equality in the Mozambican context. Sustainability, traditionally associated with the environmental dimension, is explored here as the capacity of social projects to maintain their positive impacts over time, ensuring social justice and reducing inequalities. The study adopts a qualitative approach of a descriptive-explanatory nature, based on a bibliographical and documentary review. The analysis centres on the articulation between public policies, legal frameworks and institutional and community practices, considering the technical, socio-cultural and participatory factors that influence the continuity of social interventions. The challenges of financing, local ownership of projects and their ability to become sustainable in a context where external dependence predominates are also examined. Based on these discussions, the article proposes possible ways to strengthen the coherence between the formulation and practice of public gender policies, ensuring lasting structural transformations in communities.
