This article approaches stereotyped vision of the Amazon region and the Amazonian man observed at the national and local level, questioning the origin of such distorted vision and the reason ofthe systematic exclusion of its inhabitants in representantions ofthe region. Its further focuses on the emerging prejudice in the social relationships regarding the amazonians, a connection being established between the mental image at the time ofthe colonization, the stereotypes resulting therefrom and traces of its permanence today.
