Contributions of food reflexotherapy in health care

Changes that have taken place in the world in recent decades have guided changes in the way of thinking about health, enabling the introduction of new practices in the health system, such as Integrative and Complementary Practices. Among them, Foot Reflex therapy stands out, which is a non-invasive technique that uses compressive stimuli in free nerve endings of the feet. This study aims to identify the profile of patients who seek this type of care, discover the main complaints and results obtained, starting from the hypothesis that foot reflex therapy is an effective technique capable of benefiting health, providing general well-being and pain relief. This is a quantitative, observational, retrospective study, which collected data from 663 patients from the PICS outpatient clinic of a care hospital in the city of São Paulo, from 2016 to 2020. The results indicate that 89.% of patients were female, 80.8% aged between 41 and 70 years old, 46% were teachers, 47.2% were referred by doctors, 75.65% complained of pain and 100% of patients reported some degree of improvement of symptoms. Thus, it is concluded that foot reflexology contributed to the improvement in pain control and related symptoms.
