Abstract

Climate change intensifies environmental disasters and deepens social inequalities, demanding new ethical and technical competencies from Psychology. This theoretical and documentary study discusses the psychological practice in the face of the climate crisis and its implications for collective mental health. Based on institutional documents, scientific research, and international guidelines (WHO, PAHO, CFP), the analysis reveals that environmental impacts extend beyond ecological dimensions, affecting human subjectivity through phenomena such as eco-anxiety, ecological grief, and environmental racism. Disaster Psychology emerges as an essential field for trauma prevention and the promotion of community resilience. The study argues that professional training still lacks systematic preparation to address climate emergencies, remaining largely reactive. It concludes that the integration of Psychology with public policies and environmental education is crucial for strengthening collective mental health. The research advocates for an ethical, preventive, and interdisciplinary approach, reaffirming the role of Psychology as a science of care and a promoter of socio-environmental justice in the context of the global climate emergency.
