Abstract: Inadequate basic sanitation remains a key healthdeterminant in Brazil, with severe deficits in the North Region(Trata Brasil, 2022 and 2024). This article analyzes theimpacts of precarious sanitation infrastructure on the healthconditions of the population in Amazonas, focusing onassociated morbidity and mortality. This descriptive researchwas based on secondary data from official sources, includingIBGE, SNIS/SINISA, and DATASUS (2022-2024). Indicatorsof water and sewage coverage were analyzed in contrast withhospitalization rates for Diseases Related to InadequateSanitation DRSAI (DATASUS, 2024). The results show thatAmazonas faces a critical scenario, with a hospitalization rate of 15.33 per 10,000 inhabitants, exceeding the nationalaverage (Trata Brasil, 2024). Infectious gastrointestinal diseases account for the largest burden (5,459 hospitalizations), followed by arboviruses (998 hospitalizations) (DATASUS, 2024). According to data collected from DATASUS (2024), interior regions, such as Baixo Amazonas (356.6) and Alto Solimões (324), show thehighest average hospitalizations per municipality, thushighlighting strong socio-spatial inequality. It is concludedthat the sanitation deficit is directly related to the high burdenof disease and costs to the public health system (SUS), demanding infrastructure policies as a preventive healthaction.
