Abstract

Contacts between individuals from different cultures have been observed over thousands of years, generating different peoples, promoting cultural exchanges and giving rise not only to distinct cultures, but also to diverse phenomena, some of which can be observed from a linguistic point of view. In this sense, considering the not always peaceful contacts between individuals, I propose to analyze, in an erratic way, the way in which an indigenous researcher negotiated her existence in non-indigenous contexts. To this end, some excerpts narrated orally by the speaker were selected, from which two cultural issues will be problematized: memories and negotiation. I dare to do so after listening to the speaker at a conference on languages, taking as reference some authors of cultural studies, such as Sarlo (2007), Halbwachs (2006), Bhabha (2001) and Geertz (1978). The final considerations point to cultural negotiations over time, as a way of forging the existence of the subject in different social spaces.
