Belém, the capital of the state of Pará, was chosen to host the 30th edition of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30). Among other things, the objective of the Conference is to assess climate change on the planet, developing strategies that allow the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by the Member States. This event reinforces the protagonism of the Amazon region in the global scenario of climate discussions, as it will bring together world leaders, scientists, activists and representatives of several nations. The emergence of projects and the articulation organized by financial capital to implement mechanisms of control and submission over the Amazon territory and its resources is intrinsically contradictory to the discourse defending the environment. The article analyzes the contradictions between the current development model of the Amazon and market-based solutions, often driven by the implementation of large infrastructure projects. Finally, it is essential to emphasize that the conventional idea of “development” fostered by the Large Projects disregards knowledge, practices and identities constructed from the relationship between subject and territory.
