Abstract
The present study aims to investigate the determining elements that influence the ability of riverside families to achieve sustainable economic development. The methodological process is bibliographic and field research in nature. Over the years, the inhabitants of the floodplain, known as riverside residents, have varied their survival in response to changes in the opportunities presented in the economy. The economy of the floodplain has been multi-based, involving agriculture, fishing, the extraction of forest products and small-scale livestock farming.
