Abstract

Family configurations have been continuously studied, given the changes that contemporary times have brought regarding their structure. This study presents an analysis of "contemporary family configurations in their transitions and challenges: An integrative literature review." It was conducted through an integrative literature review, which allowed the gathering of findings from empirical and theoretical academic works. The study aims to analyze the different family configurations in the contemporary context, considering the transformations that have occurred over time and the challenges experienced by these families in the family life cycle. The methodology used was qualitative research, data collection from different platforms, namely: CAPES Journals and the Virtual Health Library (VHL), and bibliographic analysis. 256 published articles were identified, which, after applying the inclusion criteria, resulted in 18 final component articles for the study. From the included research, the articles were read and then the following categories were developed: a) The various family configurations; b) Family characteristics; c) The role of support groups in family relationships. It is concluded that the research made it possible to identify the importance of recognizing same-sex parent families, reconstituted families, single-parent families, and other configurations that deviate from the traditional model. With this, we perceive how the research contributed to reinforcing the need for inclusion, respect, and appreciation of these new forms of family organization.
