This experience report emerged from the author’s involvement in a preschool class for four-year-old children at the private daycare Ateliê Aquarela, in Fortaleza - CE, Brazil. The study analyzed how pedagogical practices inspired by Pikler and Reggio Emilia approaches contribute to children’s protagonism, autonomy, and holistic development. Systematic observations recorded in a field diary and semi-structured interviews with teachers enabled understanding of routines, space use, and pedagogical language. Results showed that pedagogical intentionality, diverse experiences, and respect for children promote horizontal relationships and democratic practices, strengthening teacher training and fostering autonomous, sensitive, and competent development.
