ABSTRACT: The theme of motherhood of black women in the northern region, their subjective experiences and the construction of affective bonds with their children constitute a great gap in the scientific literature. We present here the results of a study that investigated these questions related to the experiences of motherhood, depression and the construction of mother-baby bonds of black mothers in Manaus. It started from a double focus: on the one hand it is considered the subjective experience of these mothers in the process of becoming a mother; and, on the other hand, to understand the construction of this subjectivity from the framework established in the local and regional sociocultural. Methodologically we adopt the qualitative perspective with the technique of Case Study from semi-structured interviews. For data analysis we use Content Analysis. The results point to the fact that the tripartite process involving pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium needs to be re-dimensioned, taking each of these moments as distinct and interrelated processes that involve a complex and multidimensional set of internal and external factors in relation . Critical issues inherent in each of these moments are intensified in the case of black women, because in their case there are pressures related to the ways in which the black woman is represented, seen in social and socially treated, especially within health institutions, but also in the family. Understanding the family dynamics in the family and the processes of subjectivities that take place in her, as well as the identity construction of black women in different moments of their experiences, seems of the greater importance since it is in this social microcosm, of interfamilial relations that the scene of the Life happens at its greatest strength.
